PointAbout and REI Systems collaborated to create the Recalls.Gov Android app for the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The app employs bar code scanning technology that allows users to scan a product’s bar code with the camera on their Android device to see whether certain products on a store’s shelves are subject to a federal recall. It also displays a news feed of recent federal government recalls and allows users to report products that they believe pose risks to others to the proper authorities.
