These Are The Droids You’re Looking For…

If Apple changed the game forever with the introduction of the iPhone, Google altered it irrevocably with the release of their Android operating system.

More phones in the United States now run Android than any other platform, and the numbers aren’t even close. Forty percent of total mobile subscribers in the US are on phones running Android, compared to 26% on iOS, 23% on RIM, and 5% on Windows Phone 7. Worldwide the phenomenon is much the same. Android devices were being activated to the tune of 550,000 units a day in July 2011.

What does all this mean for you? If you’re in the market for an app, it means you should take a long hard look at what device types you receive the most traffic from already and which platforms are the most important for your app to reach.

PointAbout was one of the mobile development shops that had the good sense to show up early to the app party. We’ve been mobile app developers since 2008, working with clients in the media/entertainment, transportation, and retail verticals, among others. The breadth of our mobile application projects over the last three years means there isn’t a lot we haven’t seen, heard, and/or been asked to do on a mobile device. Don’t believe us? Check out some of our mobile application projects here, and feel free to contact us using the form below to find out how PointAbout can help you or your business harness the power of Android apps.
