Chris DeVore of AppStoreHQ, created a Venn diagram to show how app developers for iOS and Android are clustered. His site tracks apps for iPhone, Android, iPad and HTML5 by crawling their respective app stores.
DeVore and his team gathered the information by crawling their own database and manually checked 4,500 entries by hand in order to create the diagram.
The results are as follows – this is based on the 51,972 app developers listed in the AppStoreHQ’s database:
80% develop solely for iOS
17% develop solely for Android
3% develop for both platforms
DeVore admittedly said, “We were actually impressed at the numbers of cross-platform developers,” DeVore said, “and particularly the number of recognizable brand names that had already made the leap to Android: Gameloft, Facebook, AOL, Amazon, Warner Brothers, Intuit.”
